Chicken wire is a well-known marerial for the use of sculpturing beautiful artwork.

I would like to introduce another material - aluminum foil. By wrapping aluminum foil on the chicken wire, we can create a fresh image of a sculpture.

This project is simple, yet fun hobby. The necessary materials are cheap and can be obtained at most hardware or home improvement store.

Project : Sheep

Things you'll need:

• 1"-or 2"-gauge chicken wire.


• Wire cutters.


• Flat nose pliers, round nose pliers, chain nose pliers.


• Nail and hammer


• Working gloves


• Hot glue gun


• Foam board (this is use as the base of the artwork. Use wood base for better support if you plan to create a bigger artwork).


• Aluminum foil (I use 66.66yd x 12"aluminum foil here), select those for more durable and stronger aluminum foil will be more easy to form the shape.

How to make it:

1. Use wire cutter to cut a piece of 8"x10"chicken wire( I use 1"x1" hex chicken wire here).


2. Form the chicken wire into a oval shape. Twist, bend and wrap the wire around each other by using pliers. (Please visit http://www.ehow.co.uk/how_5663990_make-wire-art.html for more technique of bending chicken wire).


3. Now the body of sheep had form. Remember to built a leg for the sheep, it is important to create a space for a nail, you may need to fix the sculpture by pounding it on the wood.


4. Cut a piece of aluminum foil to wrap the whole sheep, some area may use more layers(for better effect, you can create some texture by simply using hands before wrap the aluminum on the sheep). Use hot glue to firm the aluminum foil.


5. To create the puffy effect of the sheep. Cut the aluminum foil into pieces of 2"x2" size, roll into ball shape. Stick all the aluminum balls on the sheep until cover up the whole body.


6. Now you have your sheep done~

Tips and warning: Be careful of the sharp edges of the cut wires as they can cause painful scratches. Wear gloves and long-sleeved shirt when using chicken wire.
